My Approach

All counsellors have an approach or a theory that underpins their work. I trained as a person-centred counsellor. That means that what matters to me is how you feel about yourself and how your experiences have affected you.

My role is to offer you a supportive and safe relationship, within which you can express yourself openly and honestly. I will not analyse or judge you for what you say, how you feel or what has happened. I will be thoughtful and compassionate, helping you to become more self-aware and accepting of who you really are. I will help you to figure out what it is you want and how you might achieve it.

Over the years since qualifying I have undertaken extensive additional training so that I can offer techniques and knowledge that may be helpful. This training has included Trauma-Focused Therapy.

‘So often my own emotions were hidden not only from other people but from myself.

Or perhaps it was the other way around: I was hiding from them.’
